Owner Paul Votto might be forever known as the guy who threw the draft off-kilter with his first round draft pick of QB Drew Brees. Surprised gasps were heard around the Live Draft room, obviously messing up a lot of people's well-prepared kits. The stunning choice of Brees at pick three was a vocal declaration by Votto that his team was all about the passing game, a smart choice for a league that rewards points per reception.
Votto spiced up his roster with a core of receivers that will either sink or swim, the best prospect being Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson. While Jackson is a reliable receiver, his second WR, Michael Crabtree, is in his second season and showed some glimpses of being a prominent pass-catcher.
The owner followed up with WR Santana Moss and TE Owen Daniels (who is coming off an injury but is universally renowned as one of the best Tight Ends in the NFL), rounding out a pass-heavy roster that is anchored by one premier RB in Rashard Mendenhall.
