Week Four Power Rankings

I can't believe I can say this again. Two teams undefeated. Two teams looking for their first win. And, yes, a whole lotta middle. The first two points not withstanding, this is beginning to shape up to be one typical Fantasy Football season.

A lot better consistency throughout the league, and the numbers prove it with only one sub-1oo point game turned in. Players are finally settling into their roles and into the season. Speaking of settling in, our Power Rankings have a choice few teams at the top but it is still being shaken up. Without further ado...the Week Four Power Rankings!

WEEK FOUR POWER RANKINGS

01. Brett Favre's Crocs (3-0)

Finally in the top spot because of a thrilling win on Monday Night against the surging PFT. The ascension to first in the Power Rankings is a combination of points scored and record, so BFC is the clear frontrunner. Brett Favre's Crocs seems to be firing on all cylinders and expert management has a lot to do with that. Owner Nick Votto's next opponent is the suddenly hot Team Minch, so he's not completely guaranteed a 4-0 start.

02. The Cyber Police (3-0)

Still undefeated after three games is exactly how you want to start off, but Justin Ferrari's numbers fell off a bit this last week. Hopefully it is not a trend for TCP, as he has a rising Pauls Freudian Trip to deal with in this coming week.

03. Beauty and the Miller (1-2)

Shaggy Miller's team got upset big time this week, but it had nothing to do with performances on his side of the ball. Learn the word "fluke" when speaking to B&TM losses because that's a key ingredient. The team will be flirting with the top for most of the season, but with strange defeats like the one suffered this week, they'll simply be spectators to the top spot. Miller should bring things level this week, as he goes up against the anemic You Dun Goofed squad.

04. RingRing Hooka RingRing (2-1)

Beating You Dun Goofed was like the star high school quarterback beating the handicapped kid with the helmet in tetherball. So Christina Ruud's win this weekend didn't have a significant impact on the rankings with the exception that her team finally showed itself to be a growingly consistent roster. Next to Beauty and the Miller, RRHRR is one of the best teams in Division 2. This will be proven next weekend as she goes up against her rival, LaunchPad McQuack.

05. Team Minch (2-1)

Another win, this time against the struggling Team McLaughlin. Arguably one of the best and most risky front offices in the league, owner Alex Minch has taken great strides in assembling an eclectic group of players that have, thus far, performed admirably for him. Week Four takes him to Brett Favre's Crocs, providing the squad with their most challenging opponent yet.

06. LaunchPad McQuack (2-1)

From the basement to the top, LaunchPad McQuack is looking more and more like their 2009 Champion counterpart Team Faggy Vampire Kids. Matt Ruud is not looking to limp into the playoffs, but rather make an immediate impact in the regular season. LPMQ has gone from 12 to 6 in two weeks, and he has also made the initials LPMQ feared throughout the league. A great test comes this week as he takes on his wife, Christina. Should be a great game.

07. Rob's Team (1-2)

Rob Pakulski's team almost pulled out the biggest upset from last week, but came up a little short against The Cyber Police. His numbers are okay but they are consistent. If the owner somehow can trade for a big points producer during the bye weeks, Rob's Team could make a legitimate challenge for the regular season record. He better be on fire next as Team McLaughlin will be looking to end their three-game skid.

08. One Team One Cup (2-1)

How 1T1C is got a positive record is beyond me, but they are there because of a huge upset this weekend against Beauty and the Miller. If they can make it through the bye weeks without too much overlap, 1T1C could not only show up Flashin' The Big Ben next week, but also start climbing even further in the standings.

09. Flashin' The Big Ben (1-2)

Charlie Tritschler's team came back down to Earth this week with an abysmal outing against LPMQ, and now FTBB has some work to do with a significant bye week upcoming which sees his QB Tony Romo taking a rest. In order to get out of a two-week funk, Tritschler needs some bench magic to take down One Team One Cup.

10. Pauls Freudian Trip (0-3)

Sigh. Boy, this team just can't catch a break. But on the bright side, Paul Votto's team is definitely moving up with a huge 149-point total in his loss against division rival BFC. Next week is going to be tough as PFT heads to take on the undefeated Cyber Police, but this is a team on the verge of something big. A win next week would be a huge boost for the owner.

11. Team McLaughlin (0-3)

It is surprising that the team with one of the best draft classes would start the season 0-3. It almost defies logic and is making for one of the more interesting stories in the league this year. The starting QB slot is still killing Glen McLaughlin's team, but with a Vikings bye this week, perhaps a shift to a new QB is in order and it might just stick. It is a tough road to their first win as they have to go up against the always consistent Rob's Team.

12. You Dun Goofed (1-2)

It is tough for me to put my team at the bottom, but we totally deserve it: god we are terrible. The biggest problem with You Dun Goofed is that it is a swallow roster with very little attractive trade bait and a complete lack of a running game. If we are to make a serious move, it needs to be this week against Beauty and the Miller because this is almost a guaranteed loss.

Week Three Power Rankings and Predictions

Two teams undefeated. Two teams looking for their first win. And a whole lotta middle. Sounds like Fantasy Football to me!

We had some crazy performances this week (50 points from RB Jahvid Best!) but lets get down to what brings everyone here in the first place: Week Three Power Rankings!

WEEK THREE POWER RANKINGS

01. The Cyber Police (2-0)

There is not much to say about the best team in the FYCL because they are simply mowing down the competition. Justin Ferrari's band of heroes should be able to lead him to victory this weekend over Rob's Team. The first real test for his team will come in Week Five against Nick Votto's roster.

02. Beauty and the Miller (1-1)

If it wasn't for that first week, Beauty and the Miller would be sitting pretty at number one. Everything is in place. His QB, RB, WRs, TE...every single player has contributed in big ways each week. The draft class of Beauty and the Miller is something of a masterpiece, and I must say that every team in the league should fear the week on the schedule where you have to go up against Shaggy Miller's squad.

03. Brett Favre's Crocs (2-0)

This placement will likely irk owner Nick Votto. Yeah, a 2-0 start is great, and a win over his rival is all fine and dandy - but the power rankings aren't just about the win column. Holding at number three is definitely an honor in this league, and his whole roster is working for him at this time. There is no element of Votto's game that isn't firing consistently, and he should extend his winning streak this week with a victory over father Paul Votto.

04. Flashin' The Big Ben (1-1)

Ryan Who? Yeah, I thought losing RB Ryan Grant spelled doom for Flashin' The Big Ben, but the team proved me wrong in a very significant way. Coming off a monster win and smartly playing the waiver game, watch as Big Ben starts making a meticulous rise in the standings.

05. RingRing Hooka RingRing (1-1)

Despite falling to Team Minch last week, there is still a lot of good things happening in Christina Ruud's camp. She made some decent trades early in the season that netted her RB Cedric Benson and WR Marques Colston, and her management has kept most of her points in play rather than on the bench. Look for a bounce back win this week as she goes up against You Dun Goofed.

06. Rob's Team (1-1)

This ain't last year's team. A solid and dependable roster is what will carry Rob Pakulski's throughout the 2010-2011 season. QB Eli Manning may not be the best choice, but the rest of his team is going to carry the lackluster numbers that the Giants leader puts up. It would be surprising for Rob to upset Justin Ferrari's The Cyber Police this week, but anything could happen.

07. Team McLaughlin (0-2)

Going without a win with that many points scored is a tragedy, and I'm sure Glen McLaughlin's finding his first season in the FYC to be quite frustrating. LaunchPad McQuack got an unreal day out of a sleeper RB and Team McLaughlin put up respectable numbers but it wasn't enough. I still wouldn't count out TM, but he needs some assistance in the starting QB area: Brett Favre's just not going to do it this year.

08. Team Minch (1-1)

He might be on the rocks with the commissioner after some highly suspect trade offers this weekend, but Minch scored a moral victory this weekend by upseting the favorite RingRing Hooka RingRing. Now if Minch could just get his front office wrangled in a bit, I think you could have this year's giant killer.

09. Pauls Freudian Trip (0-2)

Do not dismiss Pauls Freudian Trip on record alone - his team has generated points, just not when they mattered. His Monday Night numbers were off-kilter, and his first round draft pick hasn't displayed any of that magic from last year. Watch Paul Votto's team closely because even though they are in the basement, he's quietly making moves around the league to make a big push towards the postseason.

10. You Dun Goofed (1-1)

"Meh". That's the word that would best sum up You Dun Goofed's tallies over the last two weeks. One was just okay enough to get a win and the other was a slightly embarassing defeat to their rival. Now with RB Reggie Bush out, perhaps it is in my best interest to starting being a pass-heavy team like almost everyone else.

11. LaunchPad McQuack (1-1)

It's a long road to the top of the rankings but if RB Jahvid Best can turn out cames even half as good as his on Sunday, you'll see Matt Ruud's team slowly creep up the power table. Now if he can only get the rest of his team to put up respectable numbers. QB Joe Flacco? What is going on?

12. One Team One Cup (1-1)

Last week, they were the unlikely toast of the league with a convincing win - now they are below two winless teams. What happened? Well, a whole lot of mediocre players phoned in some abysmal performances. 1T1C was an iffy team at best from Day One, so this is just a case of true colors shining through.

Week Two Power Rankings and Predictions

With Week One of the new season in the bag, it is an honor to present the first official Power Rankings for the 2010-2011 FYC League.

WEEK TWO POWER RANKINGS

01. The Cyber Police (1-0)

Well, I didn't see this one coming, but that's the beauty of fantasy football - any given week can be your one shining moment. For The Cyber Police, I think they'll have more weeks like this in the near future. Led by RB Matt Forte and WR Wes Welker, the Justin Ferrari-owned team can make some serious moves around the league...at least until Welker gets hurt or Forte comes back down to Earth.

02. RingRing Hooka RingRing (1-0)

I struggled with this placement - any of four teams could be shuffled around, but I give Christina Ruud's team the Number Two spot because despite her top two RBs (Cedric Benson and Jonathan Stewart) not showing up, she still managed to beat arguably the best preseason team in the FYCL (Team McLaughlin). If those two can match production that they are known for, RRHRR could be in for a legendary season.

03. Brett Favre's Crocs (1-0)

Nick Votto, owner of Brett Favre's Crocs, is one to play the waiver wire and utilize his trading prowess. He wasted no time this year, setting up one blockbuster trade and acquiring potential trade-filler in WR Jerricho Cotchery - all within the first week. If Votto can smartly play the front office game, he could challenge the best teams in the league.

04. Beauty and the Miller (0-1)

Even in a loss, Beauty and the Miller looked like a team that could go all the way to the championship. Michael "Shaggy" Miller's team produced excellent, consistent numbers across all positions, which made for an even more heartbreaking loss when they all fell to Brett Favre's Crocs by one solitary point. If B&TM can shake off that Week One disappointment, expect them at the top of their division.

05. Team McLaughlin (0-1)

Just about every match in Week One was an exciting win for one side, and a close loss for the other. Team McLaughlin found themselves on the wrong side of that predicament, but even in loss, there is a silver lining. Glen McLaughlin's team played well - better than some teams that won last week. He's still got the best team in the league, in my honest opinion, and with RB Arian Foster on the rise, there is no reason he can't ascend to the win column this week.

06. One Team One Cup (1-0)

Last year's Cinderella story starts the season with a win. Heartwarming, sure, but it was a razor-edge success over Pauls Freudian Trip, so don't crown him too soon. The entire line played adequately but one has to wonder about 1T1C in the later matches as his bench is notoriously low on anything except a suspended QB Ben Roethlisberger. If he can move some of his players around a bit, perhaps he could make a serious run at the championship he was so close to getting last year.

07. Pauls Freudian Trip (0-1)

His best and brightest showed up to play last week. QB Drew Brees was adequate, RB Rashard Mendenhall overachieved - all in all, it was a okay performance that in most other matches would have been a win. But those high-risk/high-reward receivers failed to make an impact in their games. If owner Paul Votto wants to be contender, he needs to think seriously about bringing in a reliable and consistent WR because, so far, his risky core hasn't paid off. But there is still a lot of season for Votto to turn things around.

08. Rob's Team (1-0)

In an eight-team, high-scoring season in 2009, Rob's Team was the lone wolf that did beyond horrible. It was a forgettable season to say the least, but with a new set of regulations and teams, the shift to a bigger league may have benefited Rob's Team the most. Owner Rob Pakulski's squad is the deepest in the entire league, and if they can pull off another win this week against Flashin' The Big Ben, expect him to be in the top five teams...at least.

09. You Dun Goofed (1-0)

It's always odd to write these things about a team you own, but I'll be completely honest: that Week One win wasn't what I was really looking for to kick off the season. Taking QB Aaron Rodgers in the first round didn't seem to reward me in Week One, but hopefully that will change. Depth is a concern within You Dun Goofed, but if a miracle can happen this week over #3-ranked Brett Favre's Crocs, maybe upward movement can be achieved.

10. Flashin' The Big Ben (0-1)

WR Andre Johnson. RB LeSean McCoy. WR Dwayne Bowe. For a team with that caliber of players, it is shocking to see anything but a win. But Flashin' The Big Ben went up against #1 The Cyber Police in their first week in the league - can't really prevent a matchup like that. I believe that owner Charlie Tritschler is making some valuable moves in bringing on RB Fred Taylor, but his loss of RB Ryan Grant is something that will cost his team dearly. He's got a lot of good players not contributing, so maybe a trade of faith on the behalf of another owner could bring in a quality RB to replace Grant, giving FTBB a shot at the title.

11. Team Minch (0-1)

Team Minch has troubles, and he knows he does. If you have gone the entire week and not had a trade proposed to you by owner Alex Minch, you are in the minority. With a tenacious, all-or-nothing front office approach, Minch is trying to catch owners in bad deals but it appears that he's come out on the losing side of the only one that has been accepted. With a weak showing in Week One, and with his starting QB being Michael Vick in Week Two, expect a tough road for Minch against the well-rounded RingRing Hooka RingRing.

12. LaunchPad McQuack (0-1)

It is awful to put last year's champ at the bottom - but he did that all by his lonesome with that final score last week. He's got the stable of players, he's got the experience, so what happened? His big players decided to extend their preseason, and this cost owner Matt Ruud dearly. I don't expect for LPMQ to stay at the bottom for long - Ruud is not a fan of being a basement fantasy player - but for right now, he's the team that I have the least faith in for the early part of the season. A lot of hard matchups in store for his best players this week, and with going up against the solid Team McLaughlin, I don't expect LPMQ's first win in Week Two.

Team Profile: Pauls Freudian Trip

Pauls Freduian Trip
(Owner: Paul Votto)
Last Year's Record: N/A (Expansion Team)

Roster Highlights
QB Drew Brees
RB Rashard Mendenhall
WR DeSean Jackson

Owner Paul Votto might be forever known as the guy who threw the draft off-kilter with his first round draft pick of QB Drew Brees. Surprised gasps were heard around the Live Draft room, obviously messing up a lot of people's well-prepared kits. The stunning choice of Brees at pick three was a vocal declaration by Votto that his team was all about the passing game, a smart choice for a league that rewards points per reception.

Votto spiced up his roster with a core of receivers that will either sink or swim, the best prospect being Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson. While Jackson is a reliable receiver, his second WR, Michael Crabtree, is in his second season and showed some glimpses of being a prominent pass-catcher.

The owner followed up with WR Santana Moss and TE Owen Daniels (who is coming off an injury but is universally renowned as one of the best Tight Ends in the NFL), rounding out a pass-heavy roster that is anchored by one premier RB in Rashard Mendenhall.

Predictions
Regular Season Record: 7-5 (3rd Place)
Division Season Record: 3-2 (Tied for 1st)

Team Profile: Team McLaughlin

Team McLaughlin
(Owner: Glen McLaughlin)
Last Year's Record: N/A (Expansion Team)

Roster Highlights
QB Brett Favre
RB Chris Johnson
WR Calvin Johnson

Securing the first pick of the draft, Team McLaughlin seems destined for great things this season. A new expansion team and the last owner to commit to the season, many fellow owners present at the live draft remarked that Team McLaughlin came away with the best draft class. By the looks of it, he does seem to have a competent though slightly risky roster.

While RB Chris Johnson had a career-making year in 2009, one has to be weary of his follow up. Let us not forget about Steve Slaton who had an impressive year in 2008, only to completely bust during the last Fantasy Football season. While I think Johnson is a better athlete than Slaton, there is always a little disappointment after a season like Chris Johnson had last year.

The biggest risk is always going to be (at least until he ACTUALLY retires) QB Brett Favre. With all my personal feelings for Favre aside, the guy had a phenomenal season last year for the Minnesota Vikings and former employer Team Votto (now known as Brett Favre's Crocs, ironically). The ankle injury suffered in the NFC Championship game last year is still a concern, but if Favre can stay healthy and put up similar numbers this year (which will be tough with WR Sidney Rice out until the second half of the 2010 season), Team McLaughlin will be handsomely rewarded with this pick.
